New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), one of India’s premier media institutes, is set to launch its first-ever PhD programme in Journalism and Mass Communication starting from the current academic year.

The move is seen as a major step in expanding IIMC’s academic and research capabilities.

The decision to introduce the doctoral programme was approved during the 151st Executive Council meeting held last week.

The official rules for the course were notified on Friday, with the detailed admission process expected to be announced shortly.

The newly introduced PhD programme will be managed by the Centre for Media and Communication Research (CEMCOR), IIMC’s dedicated research wing.

The centre will guide the research process and support scholars in conducting in-depth studies in areas such as journalism, digital media, public communication, and media policy.

Registrar Nimish Rustagi said, “There is a growing need for scientific and evidence-based research in the media and communication space. IIMC is committed to nurturing future scholars and contributing to knowledge creation in this field.”

Vice Chancellor Anupama Bhatnagar also expressed confidence in the institute’s preparedness, saying, “We are ready to take on this new responsibility and contribute meaningfully to media research.”

The PhD programme is part of IIMC’s broader vision to evolve into a research-driven institution.

Further details will be made available on the official IIMC website.
