Indian Railways New Railway Terminals for Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur Stations
Patna: Indian Railways has announced plans to develop new railway terminals at Patna Junction, Danapur, and Pataliputra stations, a move expected to ease congestion and improve the operation of local trains. The initiative is part of the Namo Bharat Yojana, which aims to streamline rail connectivity across key regions.
Alongside the terminal expansion, a master plan is being drafted for the comprehensive redevelopment of Patna and Gaya Junctions. Given the increasing passenger load, authorities are also focusing on upgrading surrounding stations to distribute the traffic more efficiently. Muzaffarpur is among the key locations identified for development to help reduce pressure on Patna Junction.
East Central Railway General Manager Chhatrasal Singh detailed ongoing and upcoming projects across Bihar. Gaya station is undergoing a Rs 296 crore redevelopment, including the construction of a grand building to accommodate pilgrims. Muzaffarpur station is also being modernised at a cost of Rs 442 crore, with extensive work on its main building and related infrastructure.
Further investments include Rs 205 crore for the redevelopment of Bapudham Motihari station, Rs 272 crore for upgrades in Sitamarhi, and Rs 340 crore for Darbhanga, where a second entrance gate and additional facilities are being constructed.
