Patna: The central government has accepted the resignation of Kamya Mishra, a 2019 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who stepped down while serving as the Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) in Darbhanga. Mishra, often referred to as Lady Singham for her bold policing style, had tendered her resignation in August 2024 before proceeding on long leave.
A Rising Star Who Left at 28
Kamya Mishra’s journey in the IPS was remarkable. Cracking the UPSC Civil Services Examination at just 22 years old, she secured an All-India Rank of 172 and initially joined the Himachal Pradesh cadre before transferring to Bihar. At just 28, she chose to leave a promising career, citing personal reasons for her decision.
Odisha Roots and Academic Excellence
Originally from Odisha, Kamya Mishra hails from a business family. A bright student, she graduated from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University, before clearing the UPSC exam. Her dedication and command over policing made her a known figure in Bihar, where she gained widespread recognition for her swift and effective handling of high-profile cases.
Marriage to a Fellow IPS Officer
In 2022, Kamya Mishra married Awadhesh Dixit, also an IPS officer from the 2019 batch in the Bihar cadre. The two met during their training and tied the knot in a ceremony in Udaipur, Rajasthan.
‘Lady Singham’ of Bihar
During her tenure in Bihar, Kamya Mishra handled several critical cases, earning her the nickname Lady Singham. In 2024, she was widely praised for her quick action in solving the murder case of former minister Mukesh Sahni’s father, Jitan Ram. Her fearless approach and dedication to law enforcement made her a respected figure in Bihar’s police force.
