Patna: The Income Tax Department has conducted surveys at multiple locations in Patna and Katihar, revealing significant financial irregularities involving jewelers and hotel businesses.
In Patna, a survey conducted at the locations of three businessmen, including Shree Hari Jewelers, revealed financial discrepancies exceeding Rs 5 crore. Sajjan Kumar Khemka, the owner of Shree Hari Jewelers, was found to be conducting business with raw bills, indicating undeclared transactions.
“Khemka has spent a lot on the interiors of his shop and house,” stated sources within the Income Tax Department. “A lot of discrepancies are coming to light in his book of account.” The department will now issue a notice to Shree Hari Jewelers, demanding detailed income and expenditure records, which will determine further action.
The survey, conducted simultaneously at Shree Hari Jewelers’ showrooms at Boring Road Chauraha, Jagdeo Path, and Saguna Mor, revealed discrepancies in stock documentation. Officials found that gold and silver jewelry stock lacked proper documentation. Furthermore, the department suspects that Shree Hari Jewelers was significantly underreporting its actual income for tax purposes.
Parallel to the Patna operation, the Income Tax Department conducted surveys at ten locations belonging to Katihar-based hotel businessman Siddheshwar Singh, owner of Hotel Sun City Place. Irregularities were discovered in the hotel’s stock, prompting further investigation.
The actions were taken under the instructions of Income Tax Department’s Principal Chief Commissioner Jayant Mishra.
Income Tax Department sources confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as the surveys progress. The focus remains on uncovering the full extent of the financial irregularities and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
