Patna: Patna is set to witness a significant upgrade to its road infrastructure, with a 36-kilometre extension of the JP Ganga Path triggering a series of projects designed to improve regional connectivity and ease traffic congestion. The multi-crore expansion will bolster links between Patna, Ara, and Buxar—long a public demand.

As part of this push, the old National Highway 30 will be widened to 14 metres, spanning 22 kilometres from Shahpur in Danapur to the Bihta intersection via Maner. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been finalised, and the project is pegged at Rs 70 crore.

The Gola Road, which connects Bailey Road to Danapur, will also be widened to 14 metres. The Rs 20 crore plan includes dual seven-metre lanes, footpaths on both sides, and a central divider. With demarcation for encroachment removal already complete, the tender process is expected to conclude by May and work is likely to begin before the onset of monsoon.

Simultaneously, the Khagaul Canal Road—linking the Khagaul railway overbridge to Digha—will be upgraded. The 14-metre-wide upgrade, costing another Rs 70 crore, will involve relocating a government school and clearing encroachments. Construction is expected to commence once tenders are awarded in May.

All three infrastructure projects fall under the jurisdiction of the Patna West Path Division and were part of commitments made during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra. According to District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, land acquisition hurdles have been addressed and remaining encroachments on public land will be dealt with through official notices.

“These works will commence immediately after the tender finalisation,” said Dr Singh. “They will ensure faster, safer, and more efficient travel options while supporting the expansion of JP Ganga Path.”

The upgrades are also expected to complement the Danapur-Bihta elevated road currently under construction, further reducing the traffic load on existing routes and offering alternate corridors to and from the state capital.
