Kalpvas Mela to Begin in Begusarai from October 17; Preparations Underway for Safety and Facilities
Begusarai: Preparations are in full swing for the Kalpvas Mela, one of Asia’s largest fairs, to be held on the banks of the Ganga River in Simaria, Begusarai. The event, running from October 17 to November 16, will see saints from across India and neighboring Nepal gathering for this month-long celebration. Each Khalsa camp will be allocated one foot of land for its saints, as part of the arrangements overseen by the state administration.
Preparations for the event include the installation of paver blocks and the construction of roads around the Kalpvas area. The Kumbh Seva Samiti has organized a daily Ganga Mahaarati on the riverbanks. The flag-hoisting ceremony, marking the beginning of the Mela, will take place on Sharad Purnima, October 17, followed by a month of rituals and religious observances. Devotees will perform their final flag-cutting rituals on November 15 and 16.
Special safety measures are in place, with dangerous ghats being barricaded and SDRF divers deployed round the clock in three shifts. The district administration, led by ADM Rajesh Kumar Singh, is ensuring the smooth functioning of the event, with mobile charging stations, temporary toilets, hand pumps, and CCTV monitoring for safety. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may visit the event, and preparations are being made accordingly.
