Kolkata/Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday met his newborn grandson at a private hospital in Kolkata, where his son and Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, became a father for the second time.
Lalu, who travelled to Kolkata with wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Monday, shared pictures with the baby on social media platform X, writing: “Proudly welcoming little grandson in our family!” The announcement, made by the family on Tuesday morning, quickly drew congratulations from political leaders, supporters and well-wishers across the country.
Tejashwi’s wife, Rajshree Yadav, gave birth to a baby boy in a Kolkata hospital, marking the couple’s second child. Their firstborn, a daughter, was welcomed in 2023.
Celebrations poured in from within the family too. Tejashwi’s sister, Rohini Acharya, affectionately referred to the newborn as “Junior Tutu” — a popular family nickname for Tejashwi — and wrote on social media: “Lots of love to Junior Tutu.”
The birth of the child comes amid an intense political season in Bihar owing to recent suspension of Lalu’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav for six years for controversial personal relations, adding a moment of personal joy for the Yadav family. Photos of Lalu cradling the baby were widely circulated on social media, with party workers sharing them with messages of blessings and support.
