Lok Sabha Polls: Pappu Yadav Booked for Model Code of Conduct Violation in Katihar
Purnia: Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, the independent candidate contesting from Purnia, has found himself in hot water after being booked for violating the model code of conduct in Katihar. The district administration has taken action by seizing two of his vehicles, and a sum of Rs 50,000 was also recovered from one of the vehicles.
According to the Katihar police administration, Pappu was found campaigning without adhering to the code of conduct regulations. However, Pappu countered by stating that he was merely meeting his supporters. Expressing dissatisfaction with the administration’s actions, Pappu and his supporters staged a sit-in protest on the Dighri Chowk road.
Adding to the complexity of the situation, Pappu has leveled accusations of conspiracy and attempted murder against Sadar DSP Abhijit Singh. Pappu claims that he was conducting a door- to- door campaign in Dighari village of the Kodha Assembly when he was obstructed by the administration, who also treated him disrespectfully. Meanwhile, DSP Abhijit Kumar Singh has accused Pappu and his supporters of engaging in indecent behavior.
Pappu’s candidacy as an independent in the Purnia Lok Sabha elections adds significance to the ongoing developments, especially with the voting scheduled to take place on Friday.
Providing insights into the matter, Sub-Divisional Officer Alok Chandra Choudhary said that Pappu was caught propagating in his private vehicle within the Kodha assembly constituency of the Katihar Lok Sabha Constituency. Illegal cash and propaganda material were reportedly found in his vehicle, leading to the registration of a case against him by the Katihar district administration for violating the model code of conduct.
Choudhary further elaborated that Pappu, accompanied by his supporters, had ventured into the village area of Katihar’s Kodha Assembly within the Purnia Lok Sabha constituency to distribute money. However, when the administration intervened, Pappu’s supporters allegedly absconded with a bag filled with cash, while Rs 50,000 were recovered from his vehicle.
In light of these developments, two of Pappu’s vehicles have been impounded, with further actions underway as authorities investigate the matter.
