Madhubani/Patna: In a landmark verdict, a Madhubani district court today sentenced two convicts to death for the brutal gang rape and murder of a minor girl, calling the crime “the most heinous of the heinous.” The court also imposed a hefty financial fine of Rs 1.20 lakh on each of the condemned individuals.
In delivering the severe punishment, the presiding judge emphasized, “Such brutality cannot be accepted in society. Only strict punishment can stop such crimes. This decision is an important step towards getting justice for the victim’s family, and it will increase the confidence of the common people in the justice system.”
The Disappearance and Discovery
The chilling case dates back to June 2023, when an application was filed at Jaynagar police station reporting the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl. According to the complaint, the child vanished while playing near her home. Despite extensive searches, she could not be found. Police registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation.
The investigation led to the arrest of Sushil Rai and Om Kumar Jha, both residents of Parsa, Jaynagar. Upon their apprehension, they were produced before the court.
Confession and Recovery of Evidence
The Investigating Officer (IO) of the case presented damning evidence to the court, stating that the two accused had first gang-raped the young girl and then strangled her to death with a towel. Acting on information provided by the culprits during interrogation, the police recovered the girl’s body from under broken asbestos in a room in Kosi Colony.
Further crucial evidence, including the clothes of both accused and the towel used in the murder, were also recovered by the police, solidifying the prosecution’s case.
