Mahakumbh: Massive 70-km Traffic Jam on Bihar-UP Border Leaves Thousands Stranded for 72 Hours

Patna: Thousands of pilgrims heading to Prayagraj for a holy dip in the Ganges on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya remain stuck in a massive traffic jam on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border. The congestion, which has lasted for 72 hours, has worsened following a stampede in Prayagraj.
Since January 29, vehicles bound for Uttar Pradesh have been halted at multiple points, leading to a traffic pile-up stretching nearly 70 km in Kaimur’s district. Stranded passengers, some stuck for as long as three days, have begun walking out of the jam on foot. Many have reported that vehicles have not moved for over eight hours, with no clear explanation for the cause of the disruption.
Some travellers have been trapped for 12 hours, while others have endured up to 72 hours without progress. A bus driver carrying 30 passengers to Prayagraj said he had covered only 50 km in 12 hours. Both lanes of the highway remain jammed, worsening the crisis.
