Male Zebra from Bengaluru Zoo to be Introduced to Public at Patna Zoo Today by Minister

Patna: Visitors at the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, popularly known as Patna Zoo, have reason to celebrate as a new male zebra will be officially introduced to the public today. The zebra, brought from the Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru two months ago under an animal exchange programme, joins the zoo’s existing female zebra, Varnika, forming a pair for the first time in 19 months.

The announcement was made this morning by Bandana Preyashi, secretary of the Department of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (DoEFCC), who shared the news on X (formerly Twitter). She wrote: “To have full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with. Happy to announce that our zebra at Patna Zoo now has a companion to share her joys with. Thank you, Bannerghatta Biological Park, Bengaluru! Inauguration of their public view by Hon’ble Minister DoEFCC today.”

Dr. Prem Kumar, Bihar’s minister for environment, forests, and climate change, will officially unveil the new addition to the public during a special ceremony. The introduction of the male zebra aims to enhance conservation efforts and boost the zoo’s appeal to visitors.

The arrival of the new zebra is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen biodiversity at the Patna Zoo, which has been a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike. The zoo authorities hope that the zebra pair will bring not only joy to visitors but also pave the way for future breeding programs to bolster the population of these iconic animals in captivity.

The move underscores the commitment of both Patna Zoo to wildlife conservation and collaborative exchange initiatives, ensuring a better experience for wildlife enthusiasts and the animals themselves.
