Man Arrested in Connection with Robbery of Bandhan Bank Employee in Hajipur

A man has been arrested for robbing Rs 79,265 from a Bandhan Bank employee in Bihar’s Hajipur, as police continue to hunt for a second suspect.

Hajipur: A man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of a Bandhan Bank employee near Sahdei Buzurg in Bihar’s Vaishali district, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on May 30 when the victim, Sonu Kumar, a field employee of the Bandhan Bank branch in Desari, was returning to the office after collecting cash from several rural locations. According to the police, he had gathered a total sum of Rs 79,265 during his collection round Rs 6,600 from Malahi, Rs 20,810 from Kamalpur, Rs 11,855 from Mukundpur Garahi, and Rs 40,000 from Alipur Manjhipur.

Around 1pm, while riding his bike through the Vishhar Sthan Ufraul stretch on Desari-Ghazipur road, Sonu was intercepted by two unidentified men on a motorcycle. The rider was wearing a helmet, while the pillion passenger had covered his face with a towel. One of them brandished a firearm, forced Sonu to stop, snatched the bike keys, and opened the vehicle’s trunk to steal the bag of money before fleeing the scene. The robbers threw the keys on the road and escaped towards Desari.

An FIR was lodged the same day at Desari police station, and police launched an investigation. Following a brief manhunt, one suspect has been taken into custody in relation to the case. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the second assailant or whether the stolen money has been recovered
