Patna: A man was killed by an oncoming train at Barh railway station in Bihar on Sunday while attempting to save a woman who was crossing the tracks, according to eyewitness accounts.
The tragic incident occurred as the Patna–Dhanbad Intercity Express approached platform number two at the station, which falls under the Danapur division of the East Central Railway. A woman began crossing the tracks unaware of the approaching train, prompting a bystander to intervene in an attempt to rescue her.
The woman managed to escape unharmed, but the man was fatally struck by the train. Eyewitnesses described the man’s efforts as heroic, though ultimately fatal.
Following the incident, a crowd gathered at the site. Local police have taken possession of the body, and identification efforts are under way. Train services were briefly halted but have since resumed.
Residents of the area have voiced concerns about safety at Barh station, citing frequent accidents due to people crossing the tracks. They have called for fencing between platforms one and two to prevent further tragedies.
“This kind of accident happens almost every day,” said one local. “Proper fencing could stop people from taking the dangerous shortcut across the tracks.”
