Maner Encounter: Police Capture Fugitive Shooter, Sonu Kumar, After Intense Gun Battle

Patna : In a major breakthrough, Bihar Police have arrested Sonu Kumar, one of Patna district’s top 10 most wanted criminals, following an encounter in the Maner police station area. Acting on a tip-off about Sonu’s whereabouts, a joint team of Patna Police and the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid led by Danapur ASP.
As the police closed in, Sonu and his associates opened fire in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated, and during the exchange of gunfire, Sonu was shot in the leg and subsequently arrested. He was taken to ESIC Hospital and later referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further treatment. Meanwhile, the other criminals managed to flee the scene.
Multiple Cases Against Sonu
Sonu Kumar was wanted in several high-profile cases, including the murder of Ranjeet Kumar, former vice-president of Danapur Cantonment Board. Ranjeet was shot dead on December 21, 2024 while returning from a religious ceremony in Danapur, an incident that triggered significant unrest in the area. Although the police had apprehended several suspects in the case, Sonu, identified as the main shooter, had remained at large.
Sonu was also involved in the murder of Kundan Arya, son of Suresh Sahu, near Maner Srinagar on December 8, as well as a robbery involving a bike and a laptop. Kundan Arya, a worker in the IT cell of Upendra Kushwaha’s RLSP, was fatally shot in the incident.
Police Operation and Investigation
Superintendent of Police (West) Sharat RS confirmed that the operation was conducted based on credible information about Sonu’s presence in the Maner area. “A team was deployed under the leadership of Danapur ASP to apprehend the accused. When the police approached, the criminals fired, and in retaliatory action, Sonu was injured and arrested,” said the officer.
