Patna: Five senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from Bihar cadre have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) of the central government has recently approved the inclusion of 85 IPS officers across the country in the IG rank, with Bihar contributing five to the list.

The officers include Vinay Kumar (2004 batch), Jitendra Rana and Manu Maharaj (2005 batch), Siddharth Mohan Jain (2006 batch), and Daljit Singh (2007 batch). All are currently serving in various central assignments, with the Bihar government having already conferred the IG rank on them prior to this central elevation.

Meanwhile, in Patna, probationary IPS officers undergoing the 76th basic course were given a one-day legal training session at the Advocate General’s office within the Patna High Court premises. The training focused on enhancing officers’ understanding of the prosecution process, judicial coordination, and the legal aspects of police investigations.

Addressing the session, Advocate General P.K. Shahi underlined the critical role of legal literacy in ensuring quality investigations. “Many criminals escape conviction due to technical lapses in police work. Equipping officers with sound legal knowledge is essential to close this gap,” he told the trainees.
