Patna: In a historic first, Bihar Police has appointed three transgender sub-inspectors, including two transmen and one transwoman. Leading this groundbreaking moment is Manvi Madhu Kashyap, a resident of a small village in Bhagalpur, who has become Bihar’s first transgender police officer.

Manvi expressed her gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and her mentor, Guru Rahman, for their unwavering support. “I want to thank Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Guru Rahman Sir, who brought me here. I thank them from the bottom of my heart,” she said. Her journey has not been easy, marked by significant struggles and societal taunts, but she remained resolute. “I have not gone to my house for the last ten years. Being transgender, I had to hear taunts many times. I used to ignore all of them.”

Manvi’s preparation for the exam began in 2021. After moving to Patna, she met Guru Rahman and expressed her desire to join the police force. “I told him that I want to study and work in the police department because this is the department where you can serve the public. My dream doesn’t end here. I aspire to clear the UPSC and become an IAS officer,” she shared.

Guru Rahman, deeply moved by Manvi’s success, recounted her challenging journey. “Her father used to say, either kill us or you die. Initially, when she came to Patna, she was sent from house to house, facing severe mistreatment. This girl came to me after enduring all kinds of torture,” he said.

Despite being rejected by several coaching institutes due to prejudices, Manvi persevered under Rahman’s guidance. “The coaching staff said that the atmosphere would deteriorate. But she was quite a good student. Today, I feel that the result has vindicated our efforts. On this Tuesday, Hanuman Ji has blessed us in the form of Sub Inspector Manvi Madhu Kashyap as a real gift,” Rahman remarked.
