Patna: Maruti Suzuki will add to its SUV lineup in India with the launch of a new model, separate from the expected e-Vitara. Although details are scarce, insiders indicate that the new SUV will be a subcompact crossover, possibly below the Brezza in Maruti’s hierarchy.

The new SUV is likely to be built on the HEARTECT B platform, which supports models such as the Baleno and Fronx. This platform provides a balance of light weight and structural stiffness, which improves performance and fuel efficiency. The car will probably have a coupe-like design with a sloping roof, which will follow modern urban SUV design trends.

Beneath the skin, the SUV might come with several powertrain alternatives, such as a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine and a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. Transmission options could include a 5-speed manual, 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox to suit various consumer tastes.

Inside, the SUV is expected to be equipped with high-end features like a 9-inch infotainment display screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, and head-up display. Safety features would include six airbags, electronic stability control, and hill-hold assist.

Maruti Suzuki aims to attract urban buyers seeking a compact yet feature-rich SUV. The official launch is projected for late 2025, with more details to be unveiled closer to the release date.
