Monsoon Advances Across Bihar; Yellow Alert Issued in Eight Districts

Patna: The southwest monsoon has now covered most parts of Bihar, bringing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), favorable conditions persist for monsoon to advance into the remaining parts of the state over the next 48 hours.

The northern boundary of the monsoon currently extends through Jodhpur, Jaipur, Gwalior, and Ballia. The Meteorological Centre in Patna has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds with speeds of 30–40 km/h across many districts, including Patna, within the next 24 hours.

Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Eight Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in eight districts: Bhabua, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jamui, Banka, Gaya, and West Champaran. Residents are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions.

Gaya Receives Heaviest Rainfall

On Thursday, intermittent showers across the state provided a break from the humid conditions. Gaya district witnessed the heaviest rainfall, with 130.2 mm recorded in Imamganj. Several other parts of the district also received significant rain:

  • Dobhi (Gaya): 112.6 mm
  • Banke Bazaar: 96.2 mm
  • Bodh Gaya: 94.4 mm
  • Manpur: 73 mm
  • Mohanpur: 60 mm
  • Tankuppa: 35 mm

Other notable rainfall figures included:

  • Kauakol (Nawada): 120 mm
  • Rajauli (Nawada): 52.6 mm
  • Aurangabad: 58.4 mm
  • Chanpatia (West Champaran): 48 mm
  • Darauli (Siwan): 36.2 mm
  • Sultanganj (Bhagalpur): 35 mm
  • Dharhara (Munger): 33.8 mm

In Patna, 2 mm of rainfall was recorded on Thursday, offering some respite from the oppressive humidity.

Temperatures Drop Across State

The maximum and minimum temperatures in key cities were as follows:

  • Patna: Max 33.5°C, Min 27.7°C
  • Gaya: Max 31.0°C, Min 25.0°C
  • Bhagalpur: Max 28.0°C, Min 26.5°C
  • Muzaffarpur: Max 32.2°C, Min 27.2°C
  • Gopalganj recorded the highest maximum temperature at 36.6°C on Thursday.
