Patna: The people of Bihar will have to wait longer for the monsoon this year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that the monsoon will not enter the state between 13 to 15 June, which is the usual time. The weather department now expects the monsoon to arrive only after June 16.
According to Ashish Kumar, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the right weather conditions for the monsoon are still not forming. For the monsoon to reach Bihar, there needs to be more thunderstorm activity and stronger easterly winds. Right now, the southwest monsoon is stuck in parts of Sikkim and northern West Bengal, near the Bihar border.
In the next few days, some areas in North Bihar might see thunderstorms, strong winds, and light rain, which may bring partial relief. However, people in South Bihar will continue to face high temperatures. The weather department has said that rain activities may increase after June 17.
On Friday, temperatures rose in most cities. Dehri recorded the highest temperature at 42.2°C, while Banka had the lowest at 26.4°C. Other cities like Patna, Gaya, Gopalganj, Chhapra, and Darbhanga all recorded temperatures above 40°C. Until the monsoon arrives, people will have to continue dealing with extreme heat.
