Patna: After days of oppressive heat and high humidity, relief is finally in sight for residents of Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirming that the southwest monsoon is likely to enter the state within the next 24 to 48 hours.
According to the IMD, monsoon rains are expected to begin from Purnia district in northeastern Bihar, marking the seasonal onset. The region has already seen increasing cloud cover, and officials suggest that, if conditions remain favourable, widespread rainfall will follow. The monsoon typically enters Bihar through districts like Purnia, Araria, Katihar, and Kishanganj—an established pattern that appears to be holding true this year as well.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an thundershowers alert for several districts. Parts of Gopalganj and Siwan are warned of moderate thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rainfall, accompanied by wind speeds of 50–60 km/h over the next two to three hours. Similar alerts were also issued for West Champaran, Kishanganj, Katihar, Araria, Bhagalpur, and Purnia.
If current trends continue, widespread showers are expected to sweep across Bihar in the coming days, marking a much-anticipated transition into the monsoon season.
