Patna: A violent gun attack in Patna’s Arfabad Colony left two women dead and a man critically injured on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the Alamganj police station area.

Police said retired nurse Mahalakshmi, formerly of NMCH, and her daughter were shot dead at close range in what appears to have been a dispute between known parties. Mahalakshmi’s husband, Dhananjay Mehta, also sustained gunshot wounds and is now undergoing treatment at NMCH.

The assailants opened fire in broad daylight, with neighbours reporting multiple gunshots ringing out across the quiet residential area. Responding officers recovered four spent cartridges and a knife from the scene.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the double murder and attempted killing. “We are examining all possible angles, including the background of the dispute,” a senior police officer said, adding that search teams are working to trace the suspects.
