Patna: Muzaffarpur railway station is undergoing significant redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, with construction progressing rapidly to enhance passenger facilities. The station, part of East Central Railway’s modernisation efforts, is set to become a key transportation hub with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
A three-storey combined terminal building on the northern side has been completed, while 50% of the foundation work for the foot overbridge connecting platforms 1, 6, 7, and 8 is finished. The foundation and footing of an elevated road, designed for passenger convenience, is about 60% complete. Additionally, the first phase of the main station building has seen the completion of its foundation and ground floor columns.
On the eastern end, a newly constructed Civil Engineering Department Block is now operational, housing all engineering offices. Meanwhile, 80% of the foundation work for the departure terminal building on the southern side has been completed, with half of the ground-floor columns cast. The arrival terminal building and an adjacent mechanical department block are also structurally complete.
The redeveloped station will feature an elevated road leading directly to a 72-metre-wide air concourse, connecting all platforms. This space will serve as a modern waiting area with retail outlets offering food and other essentials. Separate arrival and departure terminals are being constructed on the southern side, while a third terminal at the western end will cater to passengers travelling towards Sitamarhi, Raxaul, and Narkatiaganj.
The new station design includes lifts, escalators, and staircases for seamless platform access. With a ‘Gold Rating’ in green building standards, Muzaffarpur station will incorporate energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, a sewage treatment plant, multi-level car parking, Wi-Fi, food courts, ATMs, and access control gates. Special facilities will be available for senior citizens and passengers with disabilities.
Temporary structures for the station director’s office, carriage and wagon store, and passenger reservation centre have been set up during the construction phase. A new booking and enquiry office on the southern side is already operational.
Once completed, Muzaffarpur railway station will provide a significantly improved travel experience, positioning itself as a modern transit hub that contributes to the region’s overall development.
