Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will soon visit Bihar to check preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections. In response, Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena has asked all district officials to begin work in “mission mode” and make sure everything is ready before the visit.
A review meeting was held on Thursday with senior officials of the Magadh Division, including DGP Vinay Kumar, Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, and other top officers. District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from Gaya, Arwal, Jehanabad, Nawada, and Aurangabad also gave updates on how preparations are going in their areas.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary asked all districts to fill vacant posts of Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers immediately. He also told officials to keep an eye on any news of possible voting boycotts and respond carefully. Vehicle checking at district borders should be increased, and police should take quick action on vehicles seized during past operations.
Chief Electoral Officer Gunjiyal said that there will be one polling booth for every 1,200 voters. He directed staff to finish data entry work on time and prepare for areas with poor phone or internet connection. He also stressed the importance of recovering illegal weapons before elections and said that instead of shifting booths, new ones should be added at the same locations if needed.
