Muzaffarpur Unveils Plans for Iconic Structures to Celebrate Baba Garib Nath Temple

Muzaffarpur: The Baba Garib Nath Temple will soon feature two iconic structures in the city’s public squares, with the proposal receiving approval from the empowered standing committee on Wednesday.
The project, set to be implemented at prominent locations such as Motijheel Bridge and Laxmi Chowk, aims to showcase symbolic structures reflecting the essence of the temple’s origins and Muzaffarpur’s identity.
At the trijunction near Motijheel Bridge, a statue of a banyan tree will be erected. This will serve as a tribute to the sacred banyan tree under which Baba Garib Nath is said to have manifested. According to local lore, during the tree’s felling, a miraculous event occurred when blood began to flow from the stump, signalling the presence of the divine. The second structure, dedicated to Muzaffarpur’s famed litchi fruit, will be installed at Laxmi Chowk, symbolising the city’s international renown for its luscious produce.
The structures will be crafted from scrap iron found within the Municipal Corporation’s inventory, giving the installation an eco-friendly edge. The initiative, which aims to educate younger generations about the city’s cultural and religious past, is expected to enhance the city’s visual landscape, beginning with these high-traffic locations.
Beyond the Motijheel and Laxmi Chowk sites, the corporation has identified additional intersections where future iconic installations may also be placed. Following the standing committee’s approval, the proposal will now be submitted to the corporation’s board for final clearance.
