Muzaffarpur: Police in Muzaffarpur have arrested a woman accused of brutally murdering her husband by stabbing him 17 times, gouging out his eyes, and slitting his throat as he slept.

Saba Firdous, who was preparing for UPSC and BPSC examinations, allegedly murdered Mumtaz Ahmed, 38, on July 7. Police said she attacked him while he slept alone in his room, suspecting he was having an affair. During interrogation, she confessed to the murder, revealing she had planned it alone.

Ahmed, a Panchayat Rozgar Sevak, was found dead in his house with severe injuries to his head, chest, back, and thigh. Police recovered a blood-stained knife with a handkerchief tied to its handle from the crime scene.

Investigators said Firdous initially attempted to mislead them by claiming robbers broke into the house, threatened her at knifepoint, and killed her husband before looting valuables. However, the SIT became suspicious when she kept changing her statements.

A DVR recovered near the railway track showed footage until 1.30 am on July 7, which reportedly captured the murder. Police also recovered Ahmed’s mobile phone from bushes behind the house.

Firdous had written on her room wall, “I accept losing but will play a big game,” and pasted a slogan, hinting at her plan. She reportedly told police that Ahmed often beat her, and she feared he might kill her.

Married since 2012, the couple had three children – two daughters and a son. On the day of the murder, Firdous pretended to faint repeatedly and kept saying, “I killed him, I killed him,” police said.

Police initially suspected robbery because cash, jewellery, and the CCTV hard disk were missing from the house.
