‘My Wife Keeps Asking for Money’—Patna Man Dies by Suicide, Blames In-Laws in Note

Patna : A 36-year-old man died by suicide in Patna, allegedly after being harassed for money by his wife and in-laws. The deceased, identified as Sujit Kumar, was found hanging in his home in Dayachak. Police have recovered a suicide note in which he accused his wife, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law of repeatedly pressuring him for money.

Suicide Note Details Financial Struggles

In the note, Sujit Kumar detailed his financial difficulties and the strain his in-laws placed on him. “My wife, brother-in-law, and mother-in-law keep demanding money. I am tired of this. I cannot give money anymore,” he wrote.

Sujit Kumar, who married Neetu Kumari (31) in November 2020, initially supported his household by giving tuition lessons. More recently, he had been working at a grocery store, earning around Rs10,000 per month.

His wife had been staying at her maternal home, but Kumar alleged in his note that she continued to demand money from him. “If I refuse, she threatens to implicate me in a false case. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law also harass me,” he wrote.

Family Alleges Harassment

The deceased’s father, Ramchandra Prasad, said his son had been struggling with pressure from his in-laws. “They kept asking for money. He was very upset. He even left home for a few days out of frustration,” Prasad said.

Sujit Kumar had previously worked in Delhi for two years in an attempt to meet these financial demands, but according to his note, the pressure never eased.

Police Investigation Underway
Barh police station chief Arun Kumar Singh confirmed that the family had filed an application regarding the case. “We have received a statement from the family and are investigating the matter. The body has been sent for postmortem, and we will question the wife as part of the inquiry,” he said.
