Patna:  The serene premises of Nalanda University (NU) bore witness to a significant scholarly congregation as the institution hosted an International Conference on Community Engagement centered around Buddhism and its profound implications for global peace. The event, meticulously organized by the Society for Empowerment, Patna, unfolded on November 3 and 4 in the university’s mini auditorium.

Under the solemn glow of the ceremonial lamp, the eminent figure of Prof Sachindra Narayan, Chairman of the Society for Empowerment, Patna, welcomed the delegates, setting the stage for an intellectually stimulating discourse on the Conference’s theme. As the program progressed, the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof Abhay Kumar Singh, the interim Vice Chancellor of NU, took the floor to share his profound insights on the lasting impact of Buddhism on fostering a global sense of unity and coexistence.

“Throughout the last two millenniums, Buddhism has been an advocate for the universal ideals of unity and peaceful cohabitation, serving as the bedrock for global tranquility,” stated the Vice Chancellor. He emphasized the university’s unwavering commitment to fostering stronger connections and collaborations, with the aim of promoting stability and prosperity across Asia and the world at large.

Distinguished luminaries such as Prof. R. N. Prasad, Vice Chancellor of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, while the esteemed Prof. Panchanan Mohanty, Dean of the School of Languages and Literature at NU, presided over the inaugural session. Dr. Abha Kumar, the Vice President of Sulabh International, extended heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the attendees.

Throughout the two-day proceedings, an international array of scholars voiced their perspectives on the contemporary relevance of Buddhist ideals in nurturing worldwide harmony and peace.
