Nalanda University Marks Republic Day with Cultural Unity and Academic Pride
Rajgir: Nalanda University in Rajgir marked the 76th Republic Day with enthusiasm and pride, bringing together faculty, students, and staff to celebrate India’s Constitution and pay tribute to the heroes who shaped the nation’s journey to freedom and progress.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the National Flag by Interim Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, followed by the National Anthem, which resonated with patriotic fervour. In his address, Prof. Singh emphasized the enduring significance of the Indian Constitution, calling it a “charter for human civilization” that has guided the nation’s governance and aspirations.
“Our Constitution is not just a political document but a profound ethical framework rooted in humane ideals. It has shaped our nation’s destiny while serving as a beacon of light for governance and civilization,” Prof. Singh said. He underscored the crucial role of education in nation-building, stating, “Institutions like Nalanda University must remind the world of the transformative power of knowledge, empathy, and global harmony. A well-educated society is the foundation of a thriving democracy.”
Addressing the younger generation, Prof. Singh urged them to view themselves as both inheritors of India’s democratic legacy and architects of its future. “The youth of today hold the key to a brighter, more equitable future. Their resolve, innovation, and spirit will define the India of tomorrow,” he said.
The celebrations featured vibrant cultural performances by students from over 20 nationalities, reflecting not only India’s rich heritage and diversity but also the multicultural ethos of the university. These performances highlighted the unity in diversity that is integral to India’s identity.
Prof. Singh also highlighted the university’s recent achievements, including international collaborations, research publications, and global representation at academic conferences. “Nalanda University has made remarkable strides, with 68 international participations, 38 publications, and partnerships with prestigious institutions. Our students and faculty embody the excellence and legacy of this historic institution,” he added.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming Nalanda University’s commitment to upholding the principles of democracy, equality, and knowledge dissemination. The celebrations served as a reminder of the shared responsibility to contribute to India’s progress while preserving its cultural and intellectual heritage.
