NEET UG Paper Leak: CBI Detains Three Patna AIIMS Doctors

Patna: In a significant development in the NEET UG paper leak case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday detained three doctors from Patna AIIMS. The detained doctors, all from the 2021 batch, were taken in for questioning, and their rooms have been sealed by the CBI.

According to sources, the CBI has seized the laptops and mobile phones of the detained doctors. The investigation has uncovered every link in the chain, from the person who stole the paper to those who delivered it to candidates and helped them memorize it.

Despite these breakthroughs, one critical piece of the puzzle remains missing: how the information about the truck carrying the exam papers reached the fraudsters. The CBI is now focusing on identifying this source.

On Tuesday, the CBI arrested Pankaj Kumar and Raju, who played pivotal roles in the leak. Pankaj is accused of stealing the papers from the truck. Both suspects were interrogated for over seven hours on Wednesday. Since the CBI took over the case, 42 accused have been arrested across seven states in just 25 days.

The Supreme Court is set to hear over 40 petitions related to the NEET UG 2024 on Thursday. A bench led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will review petitions, including calls for the cancellation and re-examination of the contested exam.

The CBI has arrested Rocky alias Rakesh from Bihar in connection with the NEET paper leak case. Sources indicate that Rocky had solved the leaked paper and sent it to an accused, Chintu. Rocky was apprehended and produced in court, which granted the CBI a 10-day remand.

Rocky had been on the run since the paper leak came to light. Initially pursued by Patna Police and the Economic Offences Unit, the case was later transferred to the CBI. Rocky, originally from Gajendrabigha village in Nalanda district, has been residing in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where he operates a restaurant.

Rocky is reportedly a close associate of Sanjeev Mukhiya, the alleged mastermind behind the paper leak in Bihar. Mukhiya, a resident of Nagarnausa in Nalanda district, remains at large. Rocky’s arrest is expected to provide the CBI with crucial information about Mukhiya’s whereabouts. Continuous raids are being conducted to capture Mukhiya.

On Tuesday, the CBI arrested Ranjeet Kumar of Gaya and Sunny Kumar of Nalanda in connection with the case. Both suspects were produced in court on Wednesday and remanded to CBI custody for six days of interrogation.

A hearing on the anticipatory bail of Sanjeev Mukhiya was held on Monday, with the petition now transferred to the CBI court.
