New Permit System for Autos and E-Rickshaws to Streamline City Transport

Patna: A new system for the operation of autos and e-rickshaws is set to be introduced in the city, aiming to streamline transportation and reduce congestion. The initiative outlines the number of routes per zone and the total number of vehicles permitted on them.

Under the scheme, 20% of autos will be granted permits to operate on all routes, ensuring accessibility for emergency and essential travel. These vehicles will be authorised to transport passengers to key destinations, including hospitals, railway stations, airports, bus stands, examination centres, and other critical locations.

According to officials, permits will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Around 18,000 autos across the Patna Municipal Corporation and the municipal council areas of Phulwari, Danapur, and Khagaul will receive permits. Of these, approximately 3,600 autos will be designated for unrestricted operation across all routes.

Online Applications to Begin Soon

The Transport Department plans to launch an online portal to facilitate permit applications. Prospective applicants will be required to submit their requests through the platform.

Upendra Kumar Pal, District Transport Authority (DTA), explained that the zoning system for auto operations is being introduced to tackle traffic congestion. The department is finalising the arrangement to ensure smoother transit across the city.

This move is expected to improve efficiency and ensure that essential services remain accessible to the public, while also addressing the growing challenge of traffic jams in urban areas.
