New Tax Rules for BH Series Vehicles: Owners to Pay 14 Years' Tax Upfront

Patna: Vehicle owners with Bharat (BH) series number plates, which are valid across multiple states, will now be required to pay motor vehicle tax for 14 years upfront, according to new regulations issued by the Transport Department. This marks a significant change from the previous rule, where only two years’ tax was collected at the time of registration.

The department has also directed those already registered under the BH series to pay any outstanding tax for the next 12 years within 60 days. Failure to comply with this directive will result in penalties as per the Central Motor Vehicle Rules.

The BH series number plate is designed to facilitate the mobility of government and private sector employees who are frequently transferred between states, ensuring they do not face registration issues when moving their personal vehicles across state lines.

The recent notification underscores a tightening of fiscal measures concerning these vehicles, aiming to streamline tax collection and ensure compliance. The department’s directive reflects a broader effort to regulate the tax structure associated with the BH series, making it more uniform and efficient.
