Motihari: A shocking case of fraud has surfaced at the Sugauli Railway Police Station in Motihari, where 24.390 kilograms of hashish, reportedly seized during a joint operation by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Railway Police, mysteriously turned into a packet of bricks and stones when produced in court.
Seizure Claimed on March 5
The case dates back to March 5, when the RPF and Sugauli Railway Police recovered three unclaimed backpacks from the Sugauli railway station. Officials claimed the bags contained 24.390 kg of hashish, which was weighed and sealed in the presence of Circle Officer Kundan Kumar before being handed over to the Railway Police for further legal action.

Courtroom Revelation Sparks Panic
The fraud came to light when the sealed packet was presented before the court. Upon opening the packet, officials were stunned to find bricks and stones instead of narcotic substances, leading to a major uproar within the Railway Police Department.
Investigation Ordered by Railway SP
In response to the revelation, Muzaffarpur Railway SP Veena Kumari has ordered a high-level inquiry into the serious lapse. She personally visited the Sugauli Railway Station on Tuesday to oversee the initial investigation process.
Officers, Staff Under Scrutiny
The investigation team is now probing how and when the original hashish was replaced. Officials are interrogating all officers and personnel who were present during the recovery and handling of the seized material. Special focus is being given to the chain of custody and the procedures followed in sealing and storing the evidence.
“This is a matter of serious concern. We are thoroughly investigating every angle. Action will be taken against anyone found guilty of tampering with evidence,” a senior police officer said on condition of anonymity.
