Supaul: A newly married couple from Mahathawa village in Bihar’s Supaul district lost their lives in a tragic road accident on June 15, after their bike was struck head-on by a speeding Scorpio near the Laxminia Toll Plaza on NH 327E.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Asif and his 20-year-old wife Abida Khatoon. According to family members, the couple had left on Saturday afternoon to visit the Triveniganj fair, assuring relatives that they would return soon.
The collision occurred around 3 PM while they were returning home. Witnesses said that the SUV, coming from Jadia, crashed into the couple’s bike near the toll plaza. The impact was so severe that the bike shattered and the SUV was extensively damaged.
Asif died on the spot, while Abida succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Their bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem.
The incident has left their village in mourning. Locals described Asif as the only son of Hasamul, and a pillar of support for his parents. The grief-stricken mother’s cries echoed across the village, with many saying the couple had insisted on going to the fair despite family hesitation.
Residents and relatives have called for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and speed monitoring on the highway, which has seen a spate of recent accidents.
