Ojaswini 2024: Patna Women’s College Celebrates International Women’s Day with Vibrant Festivities
Patna: Patna Women’s College marked International Women’s Day with a spirited celebration dubbed “Ojaswini-2024,” hosting a two-day array of inter-college events and competitions on March 7 and 9. The festivities kicked off with an inaugural ceremony on Thursday, graced by Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of Patna Women’s College (PWC), who inaugurated the event amidst a traditional lamp lighting ceremony.
The program commenced with a captivating prayer dance, followed by a welcoming song and a thought-provoking street play titled “Mai Manipur ki Beti” (Daughter of Manipur). The play resonated with themes of empowerment and societal challenges faced by women.
In a significant gesture, the PWC Alumni Association organized the Sahas Award Ceremony, honoring individuals who have demonstrated remarkable courage in contributing to societal betterment. The acronym SAHAS, standing for Sashaktikaran Hissedari Aevam Sahishnuta, underscores the association’s commitment to gender equality. This year, notable figures such as Rakhi Sharma, CEO of Youth Mobilization for National Advancement (YMNA); Dr. Nitu Kumari Navgeet, a renowned folk singer and brand ambassador for the Patna Municipal Corporation; and Abhinav Kumar, a transgender activist from Garima Grih, were recognized for their relentless efforts towards fostering gender parity.
Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of PWC, released a cluster of balloons into the sky, symbolizing boundless aspirations and dreams reaching for the infinite. The symbolic gesture encapsulated the essence of the journey towards gender equality, where the pursuit of dreams transcends barriers.
Simultaneously, Dakhal, a prominent theatre society at PWC, hosted an Intercollege Nukkad Natak Festival. Students from various esteemed institutions, including A.N. College, Shri Arvind Mahila College, St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, Patna College, and PWC, showcased their talents and addressed the competition theme, “Viksit Bharat ki Zimmesari, Sehbhagi ho Harr Naari” (Every Woman is a Stakeholder in the Development of Developed India).
The event culminated with a vote of thanks delivered by Shristi Tiwari, a student member of Dakhal-theatre society. The seamless execution of the event was credited to the guidance provided by cultural coordinators, Dr. Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Head of the Department of History, Enakshi Dey Biswas, Coordinator of Performing Arts, and Puja Kumari, Assistant Professor in the Department of Commerce.
The celebration of International Women’s Day at Patna Women’s College not only showcased talent and creativity but also served as a platform to reinforce the commitment towards gender equality and societal progress.
