Patna: More than 10,000 auxiliary nurse midwives (ANMs) in Bihar are set to receive their long-awaited appointment letters, as the state’s Health Department accelerates preparations following a Supreme Court order. Officials confirmed that over 10,600 candidates will be appointed, with distribution of letters expected to take place later this month.
The recruitment drive, which began in July 2022 with an advertisement for 10,700 posts, had faced delays due to legal hurdles, including petitions filed in the Patna High Court and subsequently in the Supreme Court. The apex court has now cleared the path for appointments, instructing the state to proceed with recruiting candidates other than the 100 petitioners involved in the case.
Sources in the department indicated that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to preside over a ceremonial distribution of appointment letters in Patna. While the exact date is yet to be finalised, health officials are working to ensure placements begin soon after the ceremony.
The newly appointed ANMs will be deployed across hospitals and primary health centres in the state, strengthening Bihar’s overstretched healthcare system.
In parallel, recruitment is also underway for 11,389 Grade A Nurse (GNM) positions. The Bihar Technical Service Commission (BTSC) has begun accepting applications for these vacancies as part of the state’s broader efforts to address healthcare staffing shortages.
