Patna: In a major administrative move, the Bihar Education Department has transferred 11,801 female teachers appointed under the BPSC Teacher Recruitment Exams (TRE) Phases 1 and 2. The transfers, executed on the basis of geographical distance, were completed by midnight on Monday.
Of the total, 5,630 teachers were from TRE-1 and 6,167 from TRE-2, while four applications remained inactive. However, unlike previous years, the department did not release a public list of transferred teachers. Instead, individual notifications were sent via the e-Shikshakosh portal and SMS to maintain both transparency and privacy.
According to Education Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr S. Siddharth, future transfer lists will also not be made public, adhering to the policy shift towards direct digital communication.
Despite the announcement being hailed by many, the move has sparked criticism. Bihar State School Teachers’ Association President Deepankar Gaurav welcomed the transfers but expressed concerns about fairness and transparency. “Teachers with longer commutes were not transferred, while those closer were. The department must clarify the criteria used,” he said.
He also called for similar attention to be given to male teachers, arguing that delays in their transfer reflect gender-based discrimination. “The department had earlier set a target to complete all transfers by March, but now only districts have been allotted — schools are yet to be assigned,” Gaurav added.
The decision comes at a politically sensitive time in Bihar, with education and employment expected to be key issues in the 2025 state elections.
