Patna 2.0: Luxury Hotels, Smart Upgrades, and a World-Class Sports Hub on the Way

Patna: The Bihar government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Patna into a modern city, with a budgetary allocation of Rs836.27 crore for various development projects. The funds will support the construction of drains, pond renovations, foot overbridges, and new facilities aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and tourism appeal. Among the key projects are the construction of three five-star hotels, improved urban drainage systems, and the establishment of women-centric amenities, including dedicated markets and pink toilets.
Luxury Hotels on the Horizon
Three five-star hotels are set to be constructed in Patna under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. These will be developed on the sites of Hotel Patliputra Ashok, Bankipur Bus Stand, and Sultan Palace. The government has already issued tenders for these projects, which are expected to provide state-of-the-art facilities for both domestic and international tourists.
Upgraded Drainage and Smart City Infrastructure
Under the Smart City Mission, several projects are in progress, including the construction of the Bakarganj drain, which will be converted into a road. Additionally, a new foot overbridge has been completed near Gandhi Maidan, and the Adalatganj pond has been renovated. Patna is not the only city benefiting from these initiatives—Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Bihar Sharif have also been included in the smart City Mission.
Women’s Market and Facilities
The state government is planning to set up a women’s market in Patna, providing designated spaces and support for female entrepreneurs. Site selection for this initiative is currently underway. In addition, new vending zones will be established with a focus on women vendors.
To further improve sanitation facilities, the government has announced plans to install 20 pink toilets in major cities within the next month. These will provide hygienic restroom facilities exclusively for women.
Badi Patan Devi Temple Development
A sum of Rs78.83 lakh has been earmarked for the development of Badi Patan Devi Temple, a significant religious site in the capital. Additionally, Rs2,887.11 lakh has been allocated for the construction of a new office for the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, aimed at boosting tourism infrastructure.
Massive Sports Infrastructure Boost
In a major push for sports development, the government has announced plans to build a 100-acre sports complex in Punpun block, allowing local athletes to train at a national level. Additionally, an outdoor stadium will be constructed in every block across the state.
The budget includes a Rs248.39 crore allocation for sports, with Rs53.39 crore earmarked for establishment costs and Rs195 crore for infrastructure projects.
Other key initiatives include:
Reconstruction of Moinul Haq Stadium, which will host national and international events. The stadium has been leased to the Bihar Cricket Association for renovations.
New sports complexes in Rajgir and the continuation of the “Medal Lao, Naukari Pao” scheme, which rewards athletes with government jobs.
Sports ground construction in rural areas, with 6,659 new facilities planned across 5,671 gram panchayats.
A torch competition is also being organized for school students to identify and encourage young sports talent, with cash prizes and certificates at different levels.
With these ambitious projects, the Bihar government is set to transform Patna into a modern, vibrant city—boosting tourism, enhancing infrastructure, and creating a thriving hub for sports and business.
