Patna Airport Likely to Resume International Flights After 26 Years as New Terminal Nears Completion
Patna: Travel from Patna to international destinations is set to become significantly easier, with the new terminal at Patna Airport rapidly nearing completion. Construction work is progressing at an accelerated pace, and officials expect the terminal to be ready by February. Following the terminal’s inauguration in April, international flights will resume operations at the airport for the first time in 26 years, after a hiatus that began in 1999.
Flights to Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, and Singapore Planned
According to sources, direct international flight services from Patna to Kathmandu, Myanmar, Bangkok, and Singapore are expected to begin as early as May 2025. Currently, passengers from Bihar must travel to Delhi or Kolkata to catch flights to these destinations. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is working to ensure the airport meets international service standards, and several airlines have shown interest in launching routes from Patna. As part of preparations, a survey of travel routes and passenger demand is currently underway.
The announcement was made public by the ruling JD (U) via its official social media platform. The post hailed the development as a major milestone for the state under Kumar’s leadership, highlighting the potential for international flights to enhance connectivity, stimulate business, and create job opportunities.
A Boost for Business and Tourism
The resumption of international flights from Patna is expected to save passengers both time and money, particularly those traveling to nearby countries. The introduction of direct flights will also simplify the travel process for Bihar’s business community, as there are plans to establish a model for international cargo supply. This would allow local traders and entrepreneurs to more easily access foreign markets, further boosting Bihar’s economic prospects.
Inauguration and Future Prospects
The new terminal is slated to be officially inaugurated in April, with speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may attend the ceremony. The completion of the terminal and the launch of international services mark a significant step forward in improving Patna’s infrastructure and connecting Bihar to the rest of the world.
