Patna: In a swift and decisive move following a recent firing incident in the city, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avakash Kumar has suspended six police personnel, including a sub-inspector and a jamadar. This action comes after the SSP had indicated that strict measures would be implemented.
The incident took place on Saturday around 5 PM near Hartali Mor in the SK Puri police station area, where unidentified individuals in a car reportedly fired approximately six rounds, causing widespread panic among residents.
Following a preliminary investigation, SSP Kumar ordered the suspension of one sub-inspector, two ASIs (Assistant Sub-Inspectors), and three constables. The suspended officers have been identified as Sub-Inspector Ashok Singh from Secretariat Police Station, ASIs Manoj Kumar Rajak and Dhananjay Kumar from Kotwali Police Station, and constables Jusi Kumari, Nirja Kumari, and Rajiv Kumar. This disciplinary action has sent ripples through the Bihar police department.
An ongoing investigation is set to delve deeper into the incident, with a city SP expected to submit a report within 24 hours to determine further actions. SSP Avakash Kumar has hinted at the possibility of more police officers facing consequences as the investigation progresses.
During a 90-minute meeting, the SSP expressed strong displeasure with several police station in-charges for their failure to respond to wireless alerts, specifically reprimanding the in-charge of Pirbahore police station. Kumar instructed all station in-charges to maintain vigilance and ensure responsiveness, warning of strict action for any non-compliance.
