Patna: In a major infrastructural development aimed at easing congestion and enhancing passenger convenience, the upcoming passenger terminal at Harding Park in Patna will be directly linked to a new subway system, the Patna metro station near the junction, and a multi-modal transport hub.
The project will integrate two 40-feet-wide foot overbridges, ensuring seamless movement across platforms. As part of the first phase, two subways—one near Patna Junction and the other near the GPO—will connect the terminal, metro station, and hub, allowing passengers to access these facilities without navigating street-level traffic.
On Wednesday, top officials including ADRM Aadhar Raj of Danapur Railway Division, Urban Development Secretary Abhay Kumar, Bridge Corporation MD Shirshat Kapil Ashok, and Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar conducted an on-site inspection of the terminal and its surrounding area.
Five New Platforms and Subway Access
ADRM Aadhar Raj confirmed that construction of the terminal’s boundary wall has begun. The new facility will include five platforms and five railway lines, along with both reserved and unreserved ticket counters. Once land from the Telecom Department becomes available, further expansion will follow in phase two.
A dedicated subway will allow passengers to park their vehicles at the multi-modal hub and walk directly to the platforms. The terminal will also be connected to the existing subway and metro station near Madni Musafirkhana.
Holding Areas for Festive Crowds
To manage large crowds during festivals or peak hours, two new holding areas with a capacity of 5,000 passengers each will be built near the parcel area and GPO. In addition, two new foot overbridges will be constructed at Patna Junction to ease the movement between Karbighiya and Mahavir Mandir, increasing the total number of foot overbridges at the station to five.
Real-Time Train Info and Monitoring
Two new double-storey buildings will be erected at the junction. The ground floor will house reservation and UTS counters, while multiple digital screens in the subway and hub will display real-time train status, platform details, and coach positions. This tech-enabled upgrade is expected to significantly improve travel efficiency and user experience.
