Patna Junction’s Underground Subway Nearing Completion, Set to Open in April

Foot Escalator at Patna Junction
Patna: Patna Junction, one of the busiest areas in the city, is set to get relief from chronic traffic congestion with the construction of an underground subway and a multi-modal transport hub. Developed at a cost of Rs 72.82 crore, the subway is expected to be completed by April, while the transport hub is ready for inauguration.
Improved Traffic and Parking Facilities
The multi-modal hub, located near GPO Golambar, will streamline public transport by integrating city buses, autos, taxis, and private car parking. The underground subway will enhance pedestrian movement, connecting Patna Junction, Mahavir Mandir, and Buddha Smriti Park, reducing road congestion in the area.
Modern Features in the Subway
The 440-metre-long subway has been designed with modern infrastructure, including:
- Four travelators of 148 metres
- Two escalators and two lifts (Mahavir Mandir exit and multi-level parking)
- Heat Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system
- Three entry-exit gates at Multi-Modal Hub, Buddha Smriti Park, and Multi-Level Parking
A Major Boost for City Commuters
The project is expected to ease traffic congestion significantly and improve access for passengers at Patna Junction. The multi-level parking facility will allow commuters to park their vehicles hassle-free, while the subway will provide seamless connectivity, making movement across the city more convenient and efficient.
