Patna Medical College and Hospital to Celebrate 100 Years with Grand Ceremony

Patna: Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Bihar’s largest medical college, will mark its centenary celebrations on February 24 and 25 with a series of events, including the distribution of gold medals to 100 students for their academic excellence.

As part of the celebrations, 72 undergraduate (UG) and 28 postgraduate (PG) students will be honored with gold medals. Among the UG recipients, 39 are women and 33 are men, highlighting the remarkable achievements of female students. The announcement was made during a press conference held by the PMCH Alumni Association on Friday.

Dr. Sachchidanand Kumar, the association’s convener, confirmed that the medal ceremony will take place at Gyan Bhavan on February 24, the eve of the foundation day. Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh, the association’s secretary, and Colonel Dr. Ansari were also present. Over 2,000 PMCH alumni, including those residing abroad, have been invited to participate in the celebrations.

The event is expected to be inaugurated by President Draupadi Murmu, further elevating the significance of the milestone.

Principal’s Absence Causes Discontent

Despite the excitement surrounding the centenary, the absence of PMCH Principal Dr. Vidyapati Chaudhary from the press conference has caused discontent among alumni and students. Dr. Narendra Pratap Singh expressed disappointment, stating that the principal’s absence sends a discouraging message during such an important occasion.

“If the Alumni Association continues to be ignored in centenary-related activities, we may be forced to reconsider our participation in future events,” Singh said.

In response, Dr. Vidyapati Chaudhary clarified that the centenary celebrations are being organized by the Centenary College Foundation Day PMCH and assured that preparations are well underway.

The centenary marks a historic moment for PMCH, which has been a cornerstone of medical education in Bihar since its establishment in 1925. The celebratory programs aim to honor its rich legacy while inspiring future generations.
