Patna: The Department of Emergency Medicine, AIIMS Patna, organized the launch event of the much-anticipated book “Manual of Snake Envenomation in India”, a comprehensive guide for health care professionals.

The book, authored by Dr. Divendu Bhushan, Head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Vishal Vaibhaw, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Assistant Professor, and Dr. Bade Ajay from the same department. The foreword for the manual has been graciously penned by the Hon’ble Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Patna, Prof. (Dr.) Saurabh Varshney, underlining the institutional commitment to improving emergency care for snakebite victims.

The event commenced with a warm welcome note by Dr. Divendu Bhushan to the esteemed dignitaries, including Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Patna, Prof. (Dr.) Saurabh Varshney Prof. (Dr.) Punam Prasad Bhadani, Dean (Academics), Dr Sanjeev Kumar ( Head – Department of CTVS), Dr. Sujit Kumar Sinha, Medical Superintendent (Incharge), Dr Mukta Agarwal, Head- Dept of Obs & Gynae, Dr Veena singh , Head Dept of Burn & Plastic, Dr Ravi Kirti, Dr Sanjay Pandey- Head Dept of PMR , Dr Vijay Kumar-and Nursing staff and Residents.

The dignitaries addressed the gathering, sharing their insights and emphasizing the critical role of such initiatives in reducing snakebite-related morbidity and mortality. Prof. (Dr.) Saurabh Varshney lauded the efforts of the Emergency Medicine team and stressed the importance of continuous medical education and research. Dr S Varshney also shared his views to improvise emergency services further and assured availability of Anti snake venom to the patients.

The formal unveiling of the book took place with the unboxing of copies by the dignitaries, marking a significant milestone for the department and the institution.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aaruni Rahul, Assistant Professor, Department of Emergency Medicine, expressing gratitude to all participants, contributors, and supporters.

The “Manual of Snake Envenomation in India” stands as a testament to AIIMS Patna’s dedication to academic excellence, clinical advancement, and public health service, offering a much-needed resource for healthcare providers across the nation.

Considering the seriousness of the case, a special team was formed under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Law & Order-1), supervised by Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna and City Police Superintendent (Central), Patna.

During investigation:
✔️ 1 accused arrested
✔️ 1 pistol recovered based on the accused’s disclosure
✔️ Other collaborators identified through interrogation

The injured person is undergoing treatment, and further raids and legal actions are ongoing to apprehend remaining suspects.
