Bhagalpur: Commuters in Bihar can soon look forward to seamless interstate travel, as the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is set to launch government bus services connecting the state to Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi. The initiative aims to strengthen public transport infrastructure and is being rolled out across all major transport divisions, including Bhagalpur.
According to BSRTC officials, the plan involves deploying 500 buses to various northern cities. Preparations are underway, with two senior officials—Pawan Shandilya, Regional Manager of Bhagalpur Transport Division, and Subhash Narayan, Chief Administrative Officer at BSRTC headquarters—appointed to oversee the coordination and contractual processes with their counterparts in the respective states.
The groundwork for these agreements has already begun. A key meeting was held on Tuesday with senior transport officials from Punjab and Haryana, and talks are reportedly progressing well. An official agreement between the states is expected shortly.
Sources within BSRTC have indicated that the rollout of the first phase of this interstate service is likely to begin in September 2025. Some of the new routes will operate under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, while others will be managed directly by BSRTC.
As part of the broader infrastructure upgrade, the government also plans to establish modern bus depots and stands in each transport division, including Bhagalpur, under the Pradhan Mantri Electric Bus Yojana.
Enhanced Passenger Amenities
The upcoming fleet is expected to be equipped with several passenger-friendly features:
- Air-conditioned buses for improved comfort.
- Seating and sleeper facilities to cater to long-distance travelers.
- WiFi and mobile charging ports for connectivity on the move.
- Surveillance cameras and Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD) for enhanced security.
- Online ticket booking system to streamline reservations and reduce queuing.
The initiative reflects the Bihar government’s renewed focus on sustainable and accessible transportation, aiming to improve inter-state connectivity and provide safe, comfortable, and tech-enabled services for citizens.
Once operational, this interstate transport system is expected to significantly ease travel for passengers from Bhagalpur and other divisions, especially those commuting for education, work, and medical needs.
