Patna: Patna’s ambitious metro project is rapidly nearing its inaugural phase, with the first trial run of the priority corridor from Malahi Pakadi to New ISBT slated for July 15. Urban Development and Housing Minister Jibesh Kumar inspected the site on Saturday, issuing clear directives to officials to ensure the project is completed on schedule, with operations commencing by August at all costs.

Minister Kumar emphasized that the metro is more than just a construction endeavor; it represents “the dream of millions of citizens of Patna” to transform the capital into a well-equipped and smart city, akin to other major metropolitan areas in the country.

Priority Corridor Details

The initial operational segment of the Patna Metro will stretch approximately 6.5 kilometers, connecting Malahi Pakadi to the New ISBT. This corridor will feature five elevated stations: Malahi Pakadi, Zero Mile, Khagaul Mor, New Bypass, and New ISBT. All station structures are now visibly taking shape. A state-of-the-art 8-lane track depot has been constructed near the New ISBT. This vital corridor traverses Patna’s bustling and rapidly developing bypass zone, providing crucial connectivity to long-distance bus services and residential areas.

Modern Coaches and Future Expansion

Departmental sources indicate that the first train coaches for the Patna Metro are expected to arrive in the capital this very month. The metro coaches will be fully air-conditioned and equipped with modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and mobile charging points. Initially, the trains will operate with three coaches, capable of accommodating 150 passengers at a time. Provisions have been made to increase the number of coaches to eight if ridership demands.

The Patna Metro project encompasses two corridors in total, featuring 26 stations – 13 underground and 13 elevated. Work is reportedly advancing rapidly on both elevated and underground sections, promising a significant upgrade to Patna’s public transportation infrastructure.
