Patna Municipal Corporation Introduces Penalties for Violation of Building Bylaws to Curb Air Pollution

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking a strong stand against violations of building bylaws in a concerted effort to combat air pollution and safeguard the city’s air quality. One of the pivotal bylaws obligates builders to employ green cloth during construction, a rule designed to mitigate pollution, particularly airborne particulate matter. In multiple areas of the city, this regulation is being flouted as buildings continue to sprout without the mandated covering.
In response to this growing concern, the PMC has mobilized teams to visit all municipal wards simultaneously.
As per a statement issued by PMC on Saturday, the teams aim to identify any buildings that are not complying with the established bylaws. This initiative will encompass both private constructions and government facilities, and penalties will extend to contractors and builders who fail to adhere to the regulations. To ensure a comprehensive and efficient process, the teams will work in unison and use geo-tagging to document the violators during the daytime. Fines will then be imposed on the following day, an official said.
This action, orchestrated under the direction of the Municipal Commissioner, is executed by teams established at both the zonal and headquarters levels. Its primary aim is to uphold building bylaws, reduce air pollution, and ultimately preserve and improve the city’s air quality.
