Patna Municipal Corporation Issuing Death Certificates Within 24-48 Hours at Cremation Ghats

Patna Municipal Corporation Issues Death Certificates Within 24-48 Hours at Cremation Ghats

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a streamlined system to ensure timely issuance of death certificates at cremation ghats, reducing the need for bereaved families to visit government offices. Under the new process, death certificates are issued within 24 to 48 hours of cremation, with officials delivering them directly to the relatives’ homes.

Implemented on February 10, the initiative has led to a significant improvement in the timely registration and issuance of death certificates at all PMC cremation sites. Since its launch, 152 certificates have been issued, with detailed distribution as follows:

  • Digha Ghat – 37
  • Bans Ghat – 16
  • Gulabi Ghat – 64
  • Khajekala Ghat – 28
  • Sabalpur Ghat – 7

On-Site Registration and Verification

To facilitate the process, dedicated operators have been stationed at all major cremation ghats, including Digha, Bans Ghat, Gulabi Ghat, and Khajekala Ghat. Registrations are carried out at the ghat itself based on information provided by family members, after which the verification process is completed within 24 to 48 hours.

The system follows a step-by-step process:

  1. Data Upload – After each cremation, a data entry operator records the details on PMC’s portal.
  2. Verification & Matching – The information is matched and uploaded on the portal the same day.
  3. Digital Notification – Families receive an SMS with a link to download the certificate.
  4. Burning Certificate for Out-of-Area Deaths – If the death occurred outside PMC limits, the zonal revenue officer issues a burning certificate via the PMC portal.
  5. Hard Copy Delivery – The concerned executive officer ensures that a physical copy of the death certificate reaches the family within 48 hours.

Strict Oversight to Prevent Delays

Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar has instructed all zones to maintain efficiency and accountability. Any negligence or irregularity in the process will lead to strict disciplinary action against the responsible data entry operator or sub-registrar.

The initiative aims to ease bureaucratic burdens for grieving families while ensuring efficient public service delivery.
