Patna Municipal Corporation to Keep Tax Counters Open on Sundays and Holidays in March

Patna : With the financial year drawing to a close, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a special drive to facilitate property tax collection. As part of this initiative, tax counters will remain open on all Sundays and public holidays throughout March, ensuring that residents can clear their dues without inconvenience.

In a bid to expedite collections, PMC has also introduced a QR-based payment system. The corporation has printed and distributed demand bills for 66,535 defaulters, categorized by zone. These bills have been handed over to sanitation supervisors, enabling property owners to make payments by simply scanning the QR code from the comfort of their homes.

Seizures and Property Attachments for Persistent Defaulters

PMC has intensified its crackdown on tax defaulters, dispatching teams to seize properties of those who have failed to clear dues despite repeated notices. Each zone has been assigned 12 police officers and a magistrate to oversee the attachment process.

As per the Bihar Municipality Act, 2007, and the Bihar Municipal Property Tax (Assessment, Collection, and Recovery) Rules, 2013, non-payment of property tax can lead to stringent measures. These include demand notices, suspension of municipal services, seizure and sale of movable and immovable assets, and even bank account attachment.

24/7 Payment Facility via WhatsApp Chatbot

To simplify tax payments, PMC has launched a 24×7 WhatsApp chatbot service on 9264447449, allowing citizens to pay property tax and receive an instant receipt. The process is designed to be user-friendly, with no additional charges. Residents are being notified of this facility through SMS alerts.
