Patna Police Crack Down on Number Plate Violations: 25 Cases Filed

Patna: Twenty-five individuals in Patna are facing criminal charges for concealing or altering their vehicle number plates in an attempt to evade traffic fines. Cases have been registered at various police stations under Section BNS 2023, which carries a potential punishment of three to seven years. The crackdown was confirmed by Traffic Superintendent of Police (SP) Aparajit Lohan.

The violations involved drivers using tape, stickers, or other methods to obscure their number plates. As part of the enforcement drive, the traffic police released videos showing some of the offenders publicly apologizing for their actions.

One such offender, Manish, admitted to covering his number plate with tape to avoid a challan (fine). He was issued a notice and instructed to submit vehicle-related documents. Following a warning not to repeat the offense, he was released. Another offender, Sumit Kumar, shared a similar experience, acknowledging that he had hidden his number plate to dodge fines. After presenting the necessary documents, he was let off with strict instructions to comply with traffic rules.

The cases were distributed across the city, with four registered at Gandhi Maidan police station, and others at Khagaul, Kankarbagh, Patliputra, Jakkanpur, Patrakar Nagar, Phulwarisharif, Danapur, Naubatpur, Didarganj, Pirbahor, Buddha Colony, Shastri Nagar, and Agamkuan police stations.

The Traffic SP emphasized that such violations not only invite strict legal consequences but also undermine road safety. The police have urged citizens to follow traffic laws and ensure proper display of their vehicle number plates.
