Patna: In a sweeping administrative move aimed at tightening law enforcement and enhancing crime control, Patna’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Avkash Kumar, has transferred 402 inspectors and assistant inspectors across the district. The unprecedented reshuffle, announced late Sunday evening, has triggered a stir within the ranks of the police force.
This marks the first instance of such a large-scale transfer within the city’s police structure, underscoring the administration’s intent to overhaul local policing operations under the Smart Policing initiative. The move comes in response to rising public concerns over law and order, as well as long-standing internal demands for rotation and fair postings.
Police Stations Face Temporary Disruption
As news of the transfers broke, police stations across the district witnessed scenes of confusion and urgency. Officers scrambled to check the official list to confirm if their names were included. For many, the transfers meant sudden postings to unfamiliar jurisdictions, while others, long stationed in the police lines awaiting active assignments, have now been given fresh opportunities to lead and manage crime prevention in the capital.
Some police stations have seen their in-charges moved to the police lines, while others have welcomed new officers from the same. The shuffle aims to inject renewed energy into policing and improve response times in sensitive areas.
Strategic Move to Bolster Law Enforcement
SSP Avkash Kumar has emphasised that the transfers are part of a broader strategy to streamline police operations and ensure equitable workload distribution. The move is also expected to break stagnation in postings and bring in a rotation of duties for more efficient crime control.
